The draw was attended by Football Association of Malawi (FAM), club officials and the media.

According to sponsors of the soccer fiesta Hock Enterprise, winners will get K2 million while runners-up will pocket K750 000. Third and fourth placed teams will pocket K250 00 each.

Hock Enterprise managing director Frank Katundulu assured the clubs during the draw that the prize money is not dependent on gate collections.

“We have signed a contract with FAM and clubs can be assured of the prize money. We are a reliable company and this bonanza is about charity works. We want to use football to support Mua School for the Deaf. We thought of using the power of sports (football) to raise money,” said Katundulu.

Blue Eagles treasurer Calvin Banda said they do not want to have a situation which they experienced two years ago, when they failed to receive their prize money after emerging champions.

“We have been assured by FAM that the money is there. In case the sponsors bolt, then we will have to take FAM to task,” said Banda. n
