Bullets fans shun own team

FCB Nyasa Bullets have lamented a significant drop of patronage at their recent matches, which they have attributed to poor results.

Bullets top in gate collection shares on the domestic scene with the gross in most of their matches hitting between K20 million and K40 million, but the most recent TNM Super League matches against Bangwe All Stars and Chitipa United raked in K4.87 million and K6.4 million, respectively.

Chigoga: There has been a notable decrease

The club’s acting chief executive officer Albert Chigoga has since urged the club’s fans not to turn their back against their own team.

He said: “There has been a notable decrease in the turn-out of our fans due to poor results.

“We are cognizant of the fact that good performance is value creation to the supporters who pay to watch the games. When we do well, there are emotional benefits to the team.

“Our appeal to the supporters is to continue rallying behind their team in good and bad times.”

The club’s supporters committee chairperson Stone Mwamadi said in an interview that the development is a big concern.

He said: “The issue is that the supporters are not happy with the results; hence, the low turnout. What they benefit are positive results, but with the team’s struggles, they feel let down.

“We have been engaging the fans through their zones and their stand is that with the current economic challenges, they would rather invest the money elsewhere.

“But we will continue to engage them because they are our 12th player and our appeal is that they should continue coming to cheer their team. In football, a team is bound to go through a bad patch, it is part of the game.”

Before yesterday’s match against Creck Sporting Club, Bullets had won six of their 18 played, losing three and drawing nine. They were ninth with 27 points.
