Nyasa Big Bullets say their diminutive star midfielder Mike Mkwate is not for sale.

The club’s chief executive officer Fleetwood Haiya was responding to whether Zambian Ndola-based MTN/FAZ Super Division outfit Buildcon FC had put an offer on the table after the player impressed during trials earlier this month.

Not yet fit: Mkwate

“They [Buidcon] haven’t yet given an offer but indicated they were impressed and considering signing him in the new season, hoping that they will be promoted to the elite league [Zambia Super League]. But all the same, we are building his physique before we can put him up on the market,” he said.

Haiya said they had put him on an intensive programme so that he can reach his maximum potential.

Standing at just 1.6 metres, the pint-sized 21-year-old, who was named most improved player of 2018 TNM Super League, has proved lethal in midfield, but his shortfall is his small stature.

Though what he lacks in physique, he more than makes up for in his vast skills, football analyst Charles Nyirenda, who nicknamed Mkwate ‘Digital’, believes the intensive programme will transform him into a complete athlete.

“I have always said that what he needs is a proper diet and physical fitness training that would help him build his stamina so that that he can last 90 plus minutes on the field of play. Once that happens, we will see his full potential,” he said.

Soccer Today, wwwsoccertoday.com, advocates for healthy diet, cardiovascular exercise, strength training and stretching exercises for a player to improve his stamina.
