Bullets want Nsejjere to review replica price

Big Bullets Football Club has asked US sportswear firm Nsejjere Holdings to take into account income earnings of most Malawians when coming up with pricing of replica shirts.

The club’s secretariat told The Nation on Friday that most of the team’s supporters cannot afford K6 000 ($12) to buy a replica jersey and has since asked Nsejjere to consider providing different qualities of jerseys with different pricing.

“We have supporters of different classes in terms of take-home income earnings. Most of our supporters are low-income earners who cannot afford to part with K6 000 just to buy a replica jersey,” said Bullets general secretary Titha Mandiza.

She said the challenge they have is that the contract between the two parties was signed by the previous leadership and it is proving difficult to persuade Nsejjere to change some of the terms.

“There are a lot of issues that are not healthy for both parties like the issue of who will be responsible for the sales. Nsejjere insist that they sell the product and we will share the proceeds equally. But the problem with this arrangement is that they are affecting the sales. We know our market better than them,” said Mandiza.

Nsejjere chief commercial officer Nanfuka Aishah could not immediately comment on quality and pricing, saying she was in transit to Scotland.

But in an earlier interview, Aishah insisted that past experience has taught them not to trust the clubs with sales.

“We had such an arrangement before, but they never returned the money.”
