Capital Clippers beat Lions Lady Dynamites 43-32 at Civo Court on Sunday to go top of the Central Zone Basketball League women’s log table.

Towera Ndovie gave Dynamites a two-point lead, but Clippers, who featured Memory Chipungu, Judith Chirwa, Cathy Makani, Atuweni Samu and Imman Ngosi, later snatched the lead and controlled the proceedings thereafter.

They led the first-quarter 7-6 through Chipungu who notched four points helped by Samu (three points).

Dynamites scored through Linley Giva (three points), Ndovie (two) and Sekanawo Kasiya (1).

The second quarter was a balanced affair as it ended 18-18.

In the third quarter, Clippers were on the offensive through Makani, Chipungu and Samu. The three were all over the court with skilful display, placing Dynamites under siege. Daisy Mafuleka’s effort was not enough to contain the Clippers who led the quarter 31-24.

In the last quarter, Ngosi was guilty of squandering chances. Clippers posted five consecutive points without Dynamites retaliating.

Dynamites coach Pempho Kanjadza conceded defeat, saying they did not defend well and their opponents were a better side. His counterpart, Zofuna Chipungu, said they have a mission to win the championship title, which they missed last season.

In a related development, Hoops and Premium Tama will represent the Central Region at the national finals of veterans’ Nedbank Basketball Trophy.
