Cardoso wins Sports Complex Wellness Challenge
The College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex 60-day Wellness Challenge in Blantye ended in resounding victory for Jovita Cardoso on Friday.
The contest, which challenged the complex’s members to engage in exercises and lose the most weight within two months, saw Cardoso shed 10.9 kilogrammes (Kg)from 87 kg.
Robert Merrick and Mbumba Kasiya were second and third after shedding 10 kg and 8.5 kg, respectively.
Merrick moved from 84 kg to 74 kg while Kasiya went down from 95.5 kg to 87 kg.
Cardoso, who received K100 000 for her feat, attributed her success to hard work and good diet.
“It is a dream of every woman to look younger and attractive. I am happy to have achieved this through the challenge. I am also excited that I have reduced the risks of suffering from hypertension,” she said.
Sports Complex manager Uchizi Ngwira said they have introduced the competition to promote healthy living among members.
“We encourage our members to engage in this challenge considering that a healthy lifestyle is not all about eating, but doing exercises. This was an inaugural event and we will be having it annually,” he said.
Guest of honour Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) executive director John Kapito applauded the complex for introducing the initiative, saying exercises teach people to be responsible consumers. n
