Carlsberg Malawi Cup regional draws today

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that the regional draws for the K20 million (about $20 000) Carlsberg Malawi Cup will be held this morning.

FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said in the Central Region the draw will be conducted at Civo Stadium while in the North and South the draws will be staged at Mzuzu Stadium and BAT ground respectively.

The FAM CEO also said the tournament will start at regional level where 17 teams will qualify for the national phase to join the 15 flagship TNM Super League teams.

“The draws are scheduled to start at 10am and each team will be required to pay a K2 000 ($8) registration fee. Only teams that are in the regional leagues will be allowed to take part,” said Nyirenda.

He said the tournament is supposed to run for a month and the ultimate prize is K7 million (about $28 000).

Meanwhile, Central Region Football Committee (CRFC) general secretary Ganizani Masiye is urging all the clubs that want to take part in the tournament from the Centre to attend the draw and register.
