“Each year we strive to add flavour to our grass roots football sponsorship. Last year, we sent 17 best Under-15 Copa Coca-Cola players to South Africa where they played international tournaments and had special football sessions conducted by professional coaches. This year, we will send two best players to France to watch Euro 2016,” she said.

Mbilizi said Copa Coca-Cola targets under-15 players with the aim of identifying talent and offering opportunities for teens to pursue their dream and the trip to France just fulfils that.

“Copa Coca-Cola unites football loving teens in every part of the country and present opportunity for them to pursue and achieve their dream. The trip to France just enhances that concept.

“The players are chosen by the special committee. We look for those that are intelligent and have displayed sportsmanship during the tournament,” said Mbilizi.

Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) general secretary Blackson Malamula said the trip is important as it will change the life experience of the learners.

“Massa is happy with the arrangement. This is a life changing experience to the learners. It is a rare chance for one to represent a country out of more than 20 000 learners who actively take part in the competition, “he said.

In this year’s edition, 1 550 teams have registered for the competition. The finals will be played between March 29 and 31 2016 at Kasungu Community Centre.
