CDF should benefit communities–Chingola
Member of Parliament for Ntcheu Central Constituency Jones Chingola has urged various constituents across the country to demand developmental projects from their representatives under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Chingola, who is also First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, made the call recently at an interface meeting convened by Concern Universal at Kuthakwaanansi Primary School in the district.
The meeting was aimed at giving communities the opportunity to raise several issues affecting them and get immediate responses from service providers and other stakeholders.
Currently, every constituency receives K7 million (about $18 000) for various developmental projects.
“CDF is for the people and it is meant to benefit them. People should, therefore, come to our offices in the constituencies to demand developmental projects they need,” said Chingola.
Concern Universal is implementing Enhancing Quality and Inclusive Public Services (Equips), a K35 million (about $90 000) one-year project in Dedza and Ntcheu. The project is funded by Tilitonse.
The project aims at increasing knowledge among communities and service providers on their rights, entitlements and responsibilities to contribute towards inclusive, effective and efficient public service delivery.
Chingola was called to the meeting by traditional leaders and people to clarify on some issues, especially lack of clean water sources and good roads in the area.
“This is a good initiative because it reminds us, leaders, of our responsibilities. It’s important for us to come and meet our voters and hear their problems,” said Chingola.
At the meeting, people raised several issues that affect them such as water problems, security, education and health.
Officials from Ntcheu District Council, hospital, police, education and other civil society organisations promised to address them.
Concern Universal regional manager for the Centre, Girward Zimba, said the project helps people to follow up on planned developmental projects.
