One hundred golfers have since Friday been battling for the K200 000 Hole-In-One prize in the CDH Investment Bank (CDHIB) Open Stroke Play Championship at Blantyre Sports Club. Winners will be announced this evening at a colourful ceremony.

Despite the chilly weather, golfers from as far as Lilongwe, Nchalo, Zomba and Thyolo were already in the field of play by 11am to try their luck.

CDHIB chief business development officer Edward Chilima said at the tee off time that they decided to sponsor the tournament to associate the bank with the sport.

“This is the beginning of the journey. We are now declaring golf as our brand game. At this juncture, we can proudly inform you that we have raised the prize money for Hole-In-One from K50 000 to K200 000 just to increase interest in people,” said Chilima.

He said the increased interest came after noting that the bank lies close to the golf court.

“As you can see that the golf court is just within our premises, it is therefore automatic that we should liken ourselves with golfers,” he said.

BSC captain Hudson Katwanje revealed that if players failed to scoop Hole-In-One K200 000 prize money, the bank will donate the money to any charity organisation the golfer’s committee will identify.
