Central Region Chess secures K400 000 sponsorship

Central Region Chess League (CRCL) has secured K400 000 (US$889) sponsorship for Rapid Chess Tournament scheduled for Simama Hotel in Lilongwe between July 4 and 6.

Businesspersons Mayeso Mphande and South Africa-based Francis Muleso have co-sponsored the Mayeso & Muleso Rapid Tournament, which will be the second sponsored competition for the CRCL in almost a decade.

The contest is likely to revive the CRCL glorious days of 2006 when the league enjoyed sponsorship from Dilawo Contractors and Cifu Group of Companies.

CRCL chairperson Khama Chindole said he is happy with the timely land mark sponsorship.

“As a league, we are happy that we have secured this innovative sponsorship. We shall use the sponsorship money for the intended purpose,” said Chindole

Mphande, who individually sponsored a K100 000 (US$222) chess contest in Lilongwe last year, said he has partnered with Muleso to develop the mental sport in the region.

CRCL general secretary Eddie Kulesi has hinted that the tournament will be Fide rated event.

The CRCL has some of the best chess players on the land such as the current Mdina Business Solutions Chess champion Petros Mfune, George Mwale and Yohane Misomali. 
