The Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) has suspended Mdzodzo from the 2012 season for failing to pay a fine.

Cezobal vice-chairperson Barlett Mafuleka said Mdzodzo failed to pay a fine of K20 000 (about $67) after they accumulated three forfeits.

“We have chopped the team from the league after they failed to pay the fine. They will be relegated to the B league next year. Only three players will be allowed to leave the team for teams which will be in the top league as per the 2012 Cezobal rules and regulations,” said Mafuleka.

Mdzodzo is the third team to face the league’s wrath this season, the others are Trojan Ladies and NRC Cheetahs.

Meanwhile, Blue Eagles Ladies on Sunday beat ABC Lions 47-28 in ladies league at Civo Court.

The Eagles were in an uncompromising mood and they reigned all the four quarters. Their Takondwa Bonzo Lwazi, who plays for Blue Eagles netball team, inspired the victory.

Eagles coach Madano Tepeteya hailed his troops for the victory, saying they played organised basketball.

According to the log table, Lady Bayonets are leading the table with 17 points from nine games. They are followed by Capital Clippers on 15 points.

ABC Lions are on third position courtesy of superior basket over Lady Dynamites as both teams tie on 12 points.

In the men’s league, Disciples lost 51-4 to Cougars in a thrilling encounter whereas ABC Lions beat Trojans 58-47.

Central Knights had a 70-21 victory over Alliance One whereas Blazers beat Pirates 55-32.

Defending champions Mimbulu are on top with 31 points from 19 games. Trojans are trailing the leaders with a single point, but they have played 18 games.

Disciples and ABC Lions are on positions three and four with 29 and 28 points respectively.
