“When I declared a State of Disaster in 23 out of Malawi’s 28 districts four and a half months ago, the secretary general of the Muslim World League was among the first to respond,” said Chakwera.

Among other interventions, the Muslim World League is supporting thousands of orphans in Malawi with an education allowance under K8.5 billion Orphan Allowances Programme launched last year.

Chakwera said the league did a lot to Malawi such that he had to personally attend the celebration to thank them.

“I believe that Malawians need to know that through the support of the Muslim World League, we distributed 300 metric tonnes of maize flour to people with disabilities in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Muslim World League is an international non-governmental organisation founded in 1962 to propagate Islam and improve worldwide understanding of the religion. In Malawi, the organisation promotes the welfare and development of Malawians through humanitarian aid, educational programmes and interfaith dialogue.
