President Lazarus Chakwera says God has not forsaken the country amid myriad challenges, but assured that there is a reason God is allowing such misfortunes to happen.

Chakwera, a former president of the Assemblies of God, said this yesterday at a Living Waters Church Service of Prayer in Monkey Bay, Mangochi District.

He said sometimes the goodness of God might not be seen, but it does not mean that he has forsaken Malawi, a country which He still loves.

Said the President: “It is not always that the goodness of Jesus is seen; mostly in times [of calamities like] of cyclones, hunger and when in serious challenges. What makes Jesus good is that even in the midst of challenges, he is there.”

Chakwera encouraged the congregants to remain steadfast in faith, explaining that God has not abandoned them and the nation.

“We may have more problems, but let me assure you that God will never let our enemies to devour us. He is watching over us and, He is amidst in our problems,” he said.

The President also rebuked those who criticise other people’s work or contributions, saying such conduct is unwelcome.

“I said this yesterday [Saturday] at Mangochi Stadium during the Golden Jubilee by the Roman Catholic of Mangochi Diocese that, at the pace we are going, what is needed is to work together to achieve more. We should not work alone, but we need to join hands to achieve maximum results,” he said.

Chakwera then commended the Living Waters Church and its president and founder, Apostle Stanley Ndovie for the enormous contributions they have made to the country.

“I am told the apostle is not here, but we have Bishop Ralph Kachikuni as his representative. Now, let me ask him to extend a message of thanks to the apostle for the great work they have been doing to the country as a church,” he said.

Chakwera then extended a message of Happy Mother’s Day message to all mothers in the country, saying as a President, he recognises the pivotal role mothers play in the country.

In his remarks, Bishop Kachikuni, who is trustee for Living Waters Church in Malawi, thanked the President for choosing to have his prayers at the church, saying it was an encouragement to them that the President remembers them.

“We feel so much favoured. The President would have gone to other well-built churches, but that he chose our church, we feel good,” he said.

During the prayers, the First Lady Monica Chakwera presented a birthday gift to the wife of Abeki Kamba, resident pastor for Monkey-Bay Living Waters Church.
