Chakwera tees off for war veterans

President Lazarus Chakwera yesterday teed off the Annual Military Fundraising Golf Tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club.

The tournament is expected to help raise funds for the welfare of the war veterans who fought in the First and Second World Wars.

Commonwealth Ex-servicemen League of Malawi chairperson Brigadier General Charles Kalumo (retired) said there are nine veterans at the Zomba homes.

He said: “Apart from these nine veterans, there are also other war veterans who have been under the care of their respective families and we are hoping that whatever we are going to raise can also be extended to them.”

Vice-President Saulos Chilima and Nico Holdings plc group managing director Vicenge Kumwenda were among those who participated.
