The 2013 two-day Chancellor’s Trophy, the University of Malawi (Unima) colleges annual sports competition, takes place from July 6 with a timely sponsorship hike from K5.7 million to K7 million.

The University Sports Association of Malawi (Usam) general secretary Chifundo Tenthani announced the hike on Monday through a brief statement made available to The Nation.

“Usam would like to thank the State President as the Chancellor of Unima for the sponsorship which underscores her passion for sports,” said Tenthani.

The event will this year witness the joining of a new team, the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar).

“The number of teams has been reduced with the formation of Luanar,” said Tenthani.

Other participating college teams in a variety of disciplines such as track and field events, football, volleyball and netball, are Chancellor College, the Polytechnic, Kamuzu College of Nursing and the College of Medicine.
