The Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) Premier Division is in a dilemma over fixtures involving University of Malawi football teams, Chanco and Polytechnic FC.

First-round games were supposed to have ended by now, but most teams in the second-tier division have an outstanding assignment with Chanco and Polytechnic whose colleges were on an indefinite closure, but have since reopened.

SRFL vice-general secretary Kingsley Simbeye on Monday admitted that they are in a fix regarding how to reschedule assignments, saying: “There are teams that would have finished the first round now, but they are waiting to play them.”

Chanco, at the bottom of the table with no point, are yet to play this season. Poly only participated in three games and they lie second from bottom of the 20-member second-tier division with three points.

SRFL had planned to wind up the season by December and strive to catch with the rest of the leagues such as the TNM Super League in line with FAM’s ambition to harmonise football calendars.

So far, Chikhwawa United top the division on 41 points from 17 games. They are trailed by Cobbe Barracks on 39 points, also from 17 games. Zomba United lie third with 35 points collected from 15 games followed by Prison United and Nyasa United at 33 points and 30 points each from 17 games.

The Golden Boot Award chase has Andrew Kamlete leading with 12 goals. He plays for 11th-placed Green Hawks who have played 17 matches. Zomba United’s Solomoni Botha comes second on 11 goals.
