Scottish hockey trainer Nail Sturrock will from this Sunday polish 21 local coaches at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) and College of Medicine (CoM) in Blantyre.

According to Hockey Association of Malawi (HAM) administration officer Benjamin Chaura, the Federation of International Hockey (FIH) expert will facilitate a week-long Level 2 coaching course for club coaches from Blantyre, Zomba, Mangochi, Lilongwe, Salima and Mzuzu.

This will be an upgrading course for coaches who last got Level 1 training in 2005. The Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) has organised the course through Olympic Solidarity.

“This will be a life-changing course for our coaches, most of which only have basic coaching skills. At present, only two coaches have Level 2 certificates. We are grateful to MOC for this training,” said Chaura.

With eight participants, Blantyre will contribute the largest number while Lilongwe will send six coaches. Mangochi, Salima and Mzuzu will send two coachs each while Zomba will send one.

HAM coaching committee chairperson Mustafa Munshi will coordinate the training while Allan Pinheiro will be the course manager.
