DD Sunshine and Malawi women’s national football team star Thabitha Chawinga has made the grade at Swedish Division One outfit Krokom/ Dvarsatts IF where she is set to be offered a contract.

If signed, Chawinga will become the country’s first female professional footballer in Europe.

DD Sunshine managing director David Dube said Chawinga will only be offered a contract after May 22, when she turns 18.

“They (Swedish club) are already complaining that she will miss three games as she cannot play because she is still a minor, but primarily everything has been finalised.

“She will not be coming back home until October when the season will wind up that side and they have already sent forms here to have her visa extended,” said Dube.

Chawinga vowed to score a hat-trick in every game, but scored five goals in her three first trial matches.

Other women football exports include Loveness Nyakamera, Chrissy Kasiya (South Africa); and Chisomo Kazisonga (Zimbabwe).
