More sweet news for Malawi is coming from the World Chess Olympiad in Norway where Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam) boss Kezzie Msukwa has been elected president of Zone 4.3 Africa Chess.

This means Msukwa is now an overseer of chess developments in 14 countries that are within the Zone 4.3 band for the next four years.

The countries under Msukwa’s jurisdiction are South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Comoros Islands, DR Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

The good news comes barely two days after Gerald Mphungu became the first Malawian to earn the Fide Master title for getting six points out of nine games at the ongoing World Chess Olympiad.

“Together with Zone Secretary Roger Tiroyamodimo (Botswana) and treasurer (Selma Simango), I promise to have more tournaments to be played within the Zone and to serve you with diligence,” Msukwa wrote in an e-mail message.
