Chief hails Corps Africa for community support

Group village head Huwa in Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in Dedza has commended CorpsAfrica for providing facilities and services to enhance quality life in the district.

He said this in an interview on Monday after the organisation donated 14 water pumps worth K10.5 million on Saturday.

Huwa said the water pumps will promote personal hygiene in the area.

“This is a landmark project in our area. Four years ago, the organisation also constructed an under-five clinic, a community-based childcare centre building and installed a bakery plant as well as a soap processing unit,” he said.

The area’s health surveillance assistant Esther Mussah described the water project as timely.

“While the organisation is doing its part, we will continue to conduct sensitisation meetings on water treatment strategies,” she said.

CorpsAfrica project facilitator Osman Moyo said their wish was to ensure that communities get amenities they need.

“At least 8 000 people in the area were relying on six boreholes. As a result, there was pressure on the precious commodity. That is why we installed 14 water pumps to ensure more people access safe water,” he said.

Moyo expressed hope that communities will sustain the project, saying people have been taking a lead in every stage from project identification, design and implementation.

“We have trained 10 community members on how to repair the water pumps. We also trained water points management committees on how to handle the facilities,” he said.

CorpsAfrica supports implementation of different projects communities identify in their area.
