“I have also been encouraged by the increase in the number of participating teams (28). I would like to assure you that I have come into pool to stay,” he said attracting applause from the fans.

CRPL chairperson Franco Banda and Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) tournament director Ben Kaukonde thanked Chigamula for uplifting the sport in the region.

“The increase will enhance competition in our league. We are also expecting more teams to join next season,” he said.

Fresh Air captain Wyson Soda, whose team emerged the champions, said they will fight to defend the title in 2017.

As champions, Fresh Air received K300 000 while runners-up Queens Park went away with K200 000. Third-placed Siege got K100 000.

The 2017 league will start in March while registration will begin next month. n
