Talented midfielder Jimmy Chikulekule put to rest the uncertainty that surrounded his future with Blantyre United by signing a three-year contract extension on Friday.

The Under-20 national team midfielder confirmed that he could not wait any longer for potential suitors such as Mighty Wanderers and Big Bullets.

“They could simply not put on the table what I demanded. I had to act decisively,” Chikulekule said through e-mail.

United administrator Lawson Nakoma confirmed on Monday that they had held on to almost all their players.

“It is only Sunday Kamuyang’ana who left on Sunday for trials in Mozambique. And there is also an addition of some new faces including Lawson Chilewe (from Wanderers), a striker from Machinjiri and a defender from White Eagles,” said Nakoma.

United suffered a minor setback last week when potential sponsors Euro Industries changed tune, saying they would award the Kuku Matches sponsorship next year after receiving more proposals. United emerged as the sole sponsorship bidder.

But Nakoma insisted that they are not affected.

“We did not get carried away with the prospect of landing sponsorship, so we are not moved by the latest development. Our search for a sponsor continues. We are very ready. Even if the season were to start now, we would go out, play and collect three points,” he said.
