Malawi boxing icon Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba says he will have a month-long rest before unveiling his next plans to have ample time to celebrate the birth of his first-born son Khai Thor.

The baby boy was born two days after his defeat by Russian Dimitry Bivol on unanimous points’ decision during a World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight title bout in the United States of America early this month.

Chilemba relaxes with his son

When asked about his next plans after the loss, the 31-year-old South Africa-based boxer said: “Right now, I am just relaxing because I have a son, born two days after I got back from the recent fight. He is just two weeks old and my entire focus is on him. I have dedicated this month to him before I plan for my next move.”

“Right now, I am just excited, full of joy and speechless. I love him so much.”

Chilemba said he would encourage his son to become a boxer, but her he would as well accept whatever career Khai Thor would want to embrace when he grows up.

The former World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion said Khai is a Vietnamese name, which means compassionate, kind and sweet while Thor means the god of thunder.

Earlier this month, Chilemba missed an opportunity to be crowned the World Boxing Association light-heavyweight champion when he lost on unanimous decision to Russian Dimitry Bivol. His record stands at 25 wins (10KOs), six losses and two draws.
