In a seeming strategic switch ahead of his forthcoming fight, Malawi boxing monster Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba has dumped American trainer Dan Birmingham for his compatriot Duddy Mogirt.

Chilemba disclosed the switch of the trainers before he flew to Las Vegas, America on Tuesday to psyche up for September 29 non-title light heavyweight fight against Hungarian Zsolt Ede.

The Malawian fighter said his management team felt the former world champion and one of America’s top trainers Mogirt was the best to prepare him for the fight dubbed Tripple Header at Foxwood Resort Mashantucket in Connecticut.

“This time, we will be working with the former world champion and one of America’s top trainers Mogirt. We hired him as my new trainer and he is in Las Vegas, so I will finish my preparations there,” said the 24-year-old Malawian boxer.

Chilemba, whose record is 18-1-1 (9 KOs), is trained by childhood mentor Andson Kazembe in Johannesburg and relocates to American weeks before a fight for specialised training.

He is managed by South African Jodi Solomons with American firm DiBella Entertainment as the promoters.

Chilemba has won three straight elimination fights on American soil as he aims at a world title by the end of the year.
