The winner will face the current champion Adonis Stevenson.

Chilemba, who is the top-ranked light heavyweight boxer, yesterday confirmed the development, saying initially he was supposed to face the winner between second-ranked Andrezj Fonfara (Polish).

“But Fonfara has decided against contesting and this morning [yesterday], we got confirmation that I will face Alvarez instead who has since accepted the challenge.

“Once I defeat this guy, which I am absolutely certain of, then I will get the right to challenge Stevenson. Now, we are just waiting to be furnished with other details such as the date and venue of the bout,” said Chilemba in an interview from his base Johannesburg, South Africa.

The 28-year-old Malawian pugilist boasts an enviable record of 24 wins (10 knockouts), two losses and two draws.

Chilemba’s last bout was against Russian Vasily Lepikhin on March 14 this year in a North America Boxing Federation (NABF) title which he won on unanimous points decision.
