Revered Malawian boxer Isaac Chilemba’s anticipated return to the ring has been dealt a blow following the cancellation of his bout against World Boxing Association (WBA) reigning light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer.

The bout was scheduled to take place in Germany on March 12.

Chilemba said in an interview from his base in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday that the bout has been cancelled because the promoter has failed to secure television rights.

“The promoter couldn’t secure the rights in time, so it has been cancelled.

“For now I am just keeping in shape, waiting to hear from my manager on the way forward,” he said.

Chilemba, a former World Boxing Council (WBC) silver light heavyweight champion, threw his hat to challenge Braehmer, who was on a lookout for an opponent after failing to defend his title against Thomas Oosthuizen. n
