Vice-President Saulos Chilima says he is set for today’s public lecture at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) as part of the ongoing 41st Ordinary Summit of Southern African Development Community (Sadc) Heads of State and Government.

His lecture, titled ‘Promoting digitalisation for revival of the Sadc industrialisation agenda in the Covid-19 era,’ has been organised by government through the National Planning Commission (NPC).

Speaking yesterday after touring pavilions mounted ahead of the Sadc Council of Ministers on Friday and the climax of the event, the Sadc heads of State and government, the Veep hoped that after the lecture, he would add value to the industrialisation and digitalisation process within Sadc.

“At the end of it, I will raise points for reflection and I hope that some of the  recommendations made can be adopted and put into use both within Sadc bloc and locally,” said Chilima, who was led by Minister of Trade Sosten Gwengwe.

He said the public lecture is also relevant to Malawi as both industrialisation and digitalisation feature highly in the Malawi 2063, Malawi’s long-term national development plan which replaced Vision 2020.

Commenting on the products and services displayed at the Sadc Summit venue, Chilima said he was excited to note that all the pavilions have quality products exhibited by different manufacturers both local and international.

Particularly, he was pleased to note that more indigenous small and medium enterprises are participating.

Yesterday, the Sadc Standing Committee of Senior Officials, whose new chairperson is Malawi’s Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Luckie Sikwese, held a closed meeting to prepare and adopt the annotated agenda and documents for the Sadc Council of Ministers to be held on Friday and Saturday.
