Chilungamo Chimwaza and Maria Lee Cho walked tall on the greens of Lilongwe Golf Club on Saturday after winning FMB golf in men and ladies categories respectively.

The event attracted big names in the sport, including Malawi national team players and veterans like Clement Chilingulo and Lieutenant General John Msonthi Jnr.

But at the end of six hours of playing, Chimwaza was 42 points ahead of national team player Gift Landisi who had 38 points, veteran Thando Sibindi who was third on 35 points.

Another national team player Victor Kachepatsonga had the longest drive while Adam Sailesi was nearest to the pin in the men’s category.

In the ladies category, Lee Cho pipped Elizabeth Tench to the honours after counting her out on 33 points. Regina Mwanza was second with 29 points.

Sheila Chinkhandwe had the longest drive whereas Lee Cho was nearest to the pin.

Chimwaza thanked FMB for the “excellent organisation” of the tournament.

“It is a great day for me to have won against the best in the game. I thoroughly enjoyed my game and thank my playing partners. I also thank my boss, Charles Matabwa, for allowing me more time to train and improve my golf. Lastly, a big thanks to Lilongwe Golf Club for an excellent golf course,” he said.

FMB head of marketing Sylvia Mataka thanked the golfers for patronising the event in their large numbers.

She said as part of the company’s social responsibility, the golf event affords FMB an opportunity to mix and interact with customers.

“Through such interaction we are able to get feedback on our services and also update you on our new services,” said Mataka.

She also thanked LGC for the wonderful organisation of the event.

On the same day, similar tournaments took place in Mzuzu and Blantyre.
