The Chinese government has constructed a K30 million safe motherhood waiting home at Salima District Hospital to help reduce infant and maternal deaths in the district.

During the handover ceremony last week, Chinese Deputy Ambassador Zhang Yuebang said his government wants to prioritise welfare projects that directly benefit people at grassroots.

In his remarks, maternal health and safe motherhood chairperson Senior Chief Kwataine said the facility is crucial for mitigating challenges in maternal and child health sector.

The project, which started nine months ago, was under the Presidential Initiative on Maternal Health and Safe Motherhood with more support from National Aids Commission (NAC).
