Chinamwali teams win gospel sports bonanza

Chinamwali Stars FC and Chinamwali Sisters on Sunday emerged champions of the K50 000 (about $200) Compassionate Gospel Sports Bonanza played at Chinamwali ground in Zomba.

In the finals of the two-week competition, Stars beat Black United 2-0 through goals by Mazunzo Jana whereas Sisters beat Queens Sisters 26-6.

Speaking before prize presentation, Compassionate Mission Centre (CMC) executive director Pastor Francis Mpinganjira pledged to continue sponsoring the competition.

“We have been impressed with how the competition has been run. I can assure you that we shall hold another sports bonanza in December this year,” said Mpinganjira.

He also said the competition achieved its mission of reaching out to communities in Zomba East with the Word of God.

Champions in football received K14 000 (about $56) whereas their runners-up got K8 000 (about $32). The netball champions went away with K5 000 (about $20) whereas their runners-up received K3 000 (about $12).

Black United’s Wisdom Nthala and Blessings Mmanga received K1 000 ($4) each for being man of the match and Golden Boot Award winner respectively.
