Chinese community eyes more investment in Malawi

Chinese community under the banner China-Malawi Friendship Association says it is working on bringing more foreign investors to Malawi.

China-Malawi Friendship Association outgoing president Jiang Qing Xi said this in an interview on the sidelines of the China-Malawi Friendship Association third board meeting in Blantyre on Thursday night.

He noted that Malawi has all it takes to have big investors as well as entrepreneurs and what is needed most is to selling the country at international level to attract more investors.

Said Jiang: “As a platform for exchanges between China and Malawi, our main tasks include attracting investment, promoting the establishment of sister city relations between Malawi and China and engage in charity work.

“Our China-Malawi Friendship Association will be more pragmatic and innovative, strive to establish sister cities between Jinzhong City in Shanxi Province and our Blantyre City, introduce more entrepreneurs to invest in Blantyre and develop Malawi in a more practical way.”

In a separate interview, Blantyre City Mayor Wild Ndipo expressed optimism that the China-Malawi Friendship Association will help boost the country’s economic development, observing that Chinese investors have already started investing in the city.

Said Ndipo: “In terms of job creation, many Malawians are being employed by these Chinese companies and we anticipate more with the new investors coming.”
