Middleweight champion Chimwemwe Chiotcha faces super middleweight titleholder Felix Mwamaso at Lilongwe Community Centre ground on August 10 in a non-title bout that will symbolise the launch of Mwai Boxing Promotions.

Chiotcha, 26, knocked out Limbani Masamba to get his crown a few months ago while 22-year-old Mwamaso recently defeated Alick Mwenda.

Chiotcha, who has 12 knock-out wins and a draw, said yesterday he aims to floor his opponent in the third round of the eight-round clash to be fought in middleweight category.

“I have already started preparing for the fight and I promise to knock out Mwamaso in round three. He seems to be a promising boxer, but he is still a baby to me,” said the Malawi Defence Force boxer who is based at Kamuzu Barracks in Lilongwe.

Mzuzu-based Mwamaso, who has so far won all his 10 professional fights, said the match will help him improve his status.

“Chiotcha is probably the number one boxer in Malawi at present. So, if I beat him, the status will be transferred to me. I am looking forward to this fight,” said Mwamaso.

According to Mwai Boxing Promotions director Danson Lanken Milisi, whose boxing career ended at amateur level in the early 1990’s, the fight will signify the birth of a unique boxing promotion.

“Although we will be arranging fights for high-profile boxers, we will emphasise more on organising bouts for professional boxers that do not have names and identify hidden talent,” said Milisi.

Mwai Ppromotion manager Desire Kambewa said there will be three curtain-raiser fights starting from 1pm.
