He asked authorities of all government departments, business people, religious and traditional leaders to join the youth in ensuring that the district is always clean.

Chimbalanga said: “Although this programme is being led by the youth, it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that we keep the district clean. Chitipa is well known for good hygiene and sanitation practices as we have not registered any case of cholera since 2004.

“We can maintain this status if we continue keeping our environment clean.”

Chitipa District Youth Network chairperson Luis Mhango said the campaign is an opportunity for the youth to demonstrate their commitment in contributing to the district’s development by ensuring good hygiene.

On her part, Chitipa district youth officer Jessy Mwansambo emphasised the importance of sustaining hygiene and sanitation practices even after the campaign.

The National Youth Council launched the Nationwide Youth Clean-Up Campaign month on March 15 2019 in Lilongwe under the theme Clean Environments, Youth Taking Lead.

The campaign will run up to April 15 2019.
