Tony Chitsulo, who was injured during the violence that occurred in the Super League match between Epac and Big Bullets at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe, will be sidelined for three weeks. He sustained a deep cut above his left eye.

Chitsulo, who bled profusely, was rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) where he had his cut sewn.

“It was a horrible experience. As I was leaving the stadium, I was confronted by a group of Bullets supporters who threatened to beat me. I managed to get out of the stands, but they followed me and one of them hit me with a stone. I was rushed to the hospital where they gave me five stitches,” said Chitsulo.

He said besides the pain, he is also mentally haunted by the experience.

“I will be doing light training, but it might take time for the wound to heal completely,” said Chitsulo.

Meanwhile, Silver Strikers have condemned the violence, saying it has no room in modern football.

“Violence does not solve anything. Chitsulo had no hand in Bullets’ loss, yet he was targeted. Property was destroyed and innocent people were hurt. It was a sad day for football,” said the club’s general secretary Mike Tembo.

In a related development, Epac player Kelvin Thotho, who was also rushed to the hospital after a collision with Sankhani Mkandawire, will miss action for two weeks.

“He sustained leg and arm injuries, but he is out of hospital. We hope to have him back after two weeks,” Epac coach Audlow Makonyola said yesterday.

Makonyola said their team bus has a cracked windscreen following heavy stoning.
