Chuma unveils Bvumbwe Research FC’s survival plan
Bvumbwe, who sealed their promotion on 77 points after a goalless draw with Changalume Barracks FC on Sunday, have a relatively young and inexperienced side.
But in an interview on Sunday, the former MTL Wanderers chairperson Chuma said he is not worried with the tough life up the top tier league where survival of the fittest is the name of the game.
“We will beef up the team, but in our own way. We will not go for the old legs. We may have to sign foreign players from countries such as Zambia,” he said.
Chuma also hinted that Bvumbwe might relocate to Luchenza Municipal Council ground as a home base since the Bvumbwe ground has no structure such as dressing room.
Bvumbwe may wish to learn from the experience of Cobbe Barracks who failed to cope in the Super League. Cobbe did not have enough time to rest and prepare for the Super League. Bvumbwe, too, only have 18 days to prepare for the new season, which starts on May 26.
“I know what it takes to compete and survive in the Super League. I can confidently say we are here to stay,” Chuma said.
Bvumbwe have experience in midfield where former MTL Wanderers fringe player Rafiq Mussa and captain Mchiwi Khulumule are inspirational. Their goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe also looks solid. But the rookies’ defence, just like upfront, struggles for aerial balls.
In an earlier interview, coach Bob Mpinganjira seemed to agree with Chuma on the need for beefing up, but was quick to stress that the team’s weak departments were few.
In other Sunday Premier Division games, Prison United thumped Nyasa United 4-1. In Division One, Lunzu All Stars lost 1-0 to Polytechnic.
