Civil calm ahead of Fisd Capital City derby
Though rocked by internal wrangles, Civil Sporting Club say they remain focused on tomorrow’s Fisd Challenge Cup round of 16 Capital City derby against rivals Silver Strikers at Silver Stadium.
The Civil Servants general secretary Ronald Chiwaula said in an interview yesterday that they are focusing on winning all their remaining games, starting with tomorrow’s fixture.
Chiwaula is facing a revolt as players want him to resign.
The players also complained of unpaid game bonuses, signing-on fees and lack of football equipment such as boots.
But yesterday, Chiwaula said the club and players had agreed to sort out the issues later.
He said: “A few members of the executive, including the vice-chairperson met with the players on Friday and what transpired is that they should focus much on the games to come and sort out the rest later.”
“We can sort out bonuses issue within the week, but as for the sign-on fees, they should be expected in the next quarter budget as our budget is planned in quarters.”
When asked on the implications of the internal wrangles on his charges, coach Franco Ndawa said they are ready for Silver.
He said: “I am not the right person to comment on the current situation that is there in the club, but all I can say is that we are much prepared and we are going on the pitch to secure three points. We are prepared just for any other game.”
On his part, the Silver Strikers coach Lovemore Fazili promised to restore the Bankers dominance over Civil.
“Everything is going on well and players are responding well. We have been on top of them [Civil] for the past two years. Yes, we lost to them in the TNM Super League, but that does not mean we cannot bounce back.” n
