Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has said it will have a clear picture on the availability of some foreign-based players at least by close of business today ahead of Saturday’s make-or-break 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final preliminary round return leg against Benin.

FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda was particularly referring to South Africa-based midfielder Robert Ng’ambi and striker Atusaye Nyondo.

Ng’ambi resumed serious training a fortnight ago after recovering from an injury, but another obstacle could be that even if he is declared fit, the Benin game clashes with that of his club Platinum Stars who will be facing Mamelodi Sundowns on the same afternoon in the MTN8 tournament..

Ng’ambi was the centrepiece of Platinum’s triumph in the same competition last season and he was named player of the tournament.

On the other hand, Nyondo is yet to get his travel document which is with the Department of Home Affairs for work permit extension.

“I think we should have a clear picture on the availability of the two players tomorrow. Nyondo is hoping to have his work permit ready either today or tomorrow; otherwise, his club has no problems releasing him.

“As for Robert, we are hoping to get a clear picture by later today,” he said.

However, Nyirenda said Robin Ngalande was expected to jet in yesterday from Cape Town whereas defender Harry Nyirenda is expected to arrive tomorrow.

“As earlier announced, Limbikani Mzava and Gabadinho Mhango will fly in on the day of the game while Chiukepo Msowoya and Chimango Kayira are also expected to arrive Wednesday,” said Nyirenda.

Meanwhile, the Flames resumed training yesterday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The Flames need to win 2-0 or 3-1 to qualify for the group stages. A 1-0 win could also be an option, but their fate would be determined by the dreaded penalty shoot-out having lost the first leg 1-0 in Cotonou.
