After hosting Giddes Chalamanda and Edgar ndi Davis last Sunday, the Chikhwawa Road fun-spot Club XL brings Lucius Banda and Zembani Band on New Year’s Day.

The club’s operations manager Vusi Nkuta said on the sidelines of Edgar ndi Davis’ performance they are engaging an extra gear in live music performances.

“We have intensified live music performances to fill the gap for fun in Blantyre. We have lots of musicians on the line up for next year so that our presence is felt,” said Nkuta.

Lucius said he was glad to start the New Year in Blantyre.

“I look forward to 2014 with lots of plans, including releasing The Best of Lucius Banda,” said the Balaka artiste.

The Sunday performance, although poorly patronised, was a rare trek into the Onyamata Ozelezeka music shelf. From Chimwemwe Maloya’s performing several foreign and local tunes, including Tsoka Liyenda and Sinamakosa to Agide whose acoustic guitar was taken over Cliss.

When Edgar Kachere and Davis Njobvu took centre stage, things were already hot. Things were hot as the dancing crew Floor Steppers had applied the heat with their dancing antics.

“We reckon the patronage was poor but that was no reason for us to call off the show. We had to give the few people that came their money’s worth,” said Davis.
