Cobbe Barracks FC on Sunday kept their Nsejjere Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Premier League title hopes on the boil with a 2-0 away win against Michiru Madrid.

Two first-half goals from Patrick Luhanga and McPeter Makwale were enough to earn their side maximum points.

The win has subsequently seen them displace Max Bullets at the top of the table with 39 points from 19 games. Bullets are now a point behind. They failed to maintain the grip at the top following their 3-0 loss away to Prison United on Saturday.

Cobbe coach Chifundo Masapula was on cloud nine with the win and attributed it to coming of new faces to the team.

“It was my wish to be back to where we belong by Monday and it has happened. I had sleepless nights with the way my team was performing in the past games. I had to patch up the team with two players from Nkhata Bay and one from Zomba United,” he said.

The Zomba-based soldiers have roped in the services of Strumph Nsoma (Zomba United), William Banda and Hastings Nkhoma (Nkhata Bay). Other players such as Isaac Vizyalona, George Pahuwa and Saopa Mpotalinga are still nursing injuries.

It was a sweet weekend for Prison United who bagged six points from their two assignments. Apart from seeing off Bullets, they beat Polytechnic 3-1 on Sunday.
