CoM helps girl follow boxing career

College of Medicine (CoM) High Performance Centre (HPC) has given 13-year-old Samantha Rousseau hope of turning her boxing passion into a career in the next four years.

Samantha has after being approached by CoM general manager Augustine ‘Banda, who had watched the girl spar like a professional, accepted to embark on a long-term athletics development programme.

“A friend introduced to her when she came for training. The HPC will help her by putting her on a high performance programme. We want to build the foundation in her in terms of stamina and fitness, right diet and channel her habits into boxing. She could be the next big thing in Malawi boxing,” explained Banda yesterday.

Under the programme, HPC will lay the boxing career development foundation and see if she could graduate into a boxer and trace the footsteps of Agness Mtimaukanena.

“I know how to punch, but I have never been punched. I started practising when I was 12,” said the girl whose focus, foot work and power punching and ducking is beyond a 13-year-old person.
