After missing the Mr. Malawi title by a whisker a fortnight ago, Yasin ‘Ichocho’ Suwedi has received a morale boost that will probably spur him to victory in the next bodybuilding contest.

The Ndirande Market hardware dealer, who came second to Henry Master during the 2013 Mr Malawi event in Lilongwe, has secured deals with College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex and Yiannakis General Import and Export.

Sports Complex has offered Suwedi a year’s free access to the complex’s state-of-the-art gym, food supplements and also to monitor his training until he takes part in the next competition.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Sports Complex in Blantyre on Tuesday, the facility’s manager Augustine Gus Banda said their support could be over K200 000 (about $500).

Yiannakis General Import and Export managing director George Yiannakis, who paid a month’s membership fee for Ichocho to train at Sports Complex prior to this year’s contest, said he will provide Suwedi with any need relevant towards his bodybuilding for he next contest.

Both Banda and Yiannakis said they decided to help Suwedi after noting the tremendous improvements he made on his second appearance in the competition.

“We want to see him succeed in his career. He has shown us his potential to deliver and we will support him the best way we can. Ichocho [Suwedi] is an excellent bodybuilder, but he only needs direction and guidance in some areas to win gold next year,” said Banda.

On his part, Suwedi, 27, said he was at a loss for words to express his delight at the support.

“I think this is a God-given gift for the effort I put in to achieve success in this sport. It is something I never expected considering that this is my first year of taking part in the bodybuilding contest,” he said.
