Committee hails reproductive health campaign

The Parliamentary Committee on Health has commended the role played by Family Planning Association of Malawi (Fpam) in Safe Reproductive Health through the scaling up of youth friendly family planning and other related services.

The committee’s chairperson Juliana Lunguzi said this during Fpam annual conference in Lilongwe on Friday.

“People need access to accurate information. They must be informed and empowered to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases and infections.

“Through the expansion of your operational centres and awareness campaigns, you are helping the nation achieve that. You are doing commendable work by enlightening the youth on reproductive health rights,” she said.

In her remarks, Fpam board chairperson Lilian Ng’oma said her organisation is committed to providing quality, accessible, affordable and comprehensive sexual reproductive health services to young people, women and men in the country.

“We have a number of projects being implemented in several districts in the country. Through such projects, we are targeting the general [public]. We also have special projects for the youth,” she said.

Ng’oma also said they have projects aimed at promoting an effective response to prevent and mitigate HIV and Aids. n
