Inkosi Mzukuzuku of Mzimba District on Saturday asked government to complete the last phase of the Jenda-Edingeni Road in the district.

The chief made the remarks on Saturday during a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) political rally at Vibangalala School Ground in Mzimba South Constituency hosted by the area’s legislator Emmanuel Chambulanyina Jere.

Mzukuzuku said the Tonse alliance government promised to construct the road from Jenda to Edingeni but so far only the Jenda-Embangweni section has been done.

He said: “We are concerned as chiefs with the slow progress from Embangweni to Edingeni.

“Government told us that a contractor has already been identified to complete the project but so far we have seen nothing much happening.”

Mzukuzuku: They made a promise

In an interview, Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara, who is also MCP deputy secretary general, admitted that the project delayed, but assured the people that government is committed to ensuring that the road is done.

She said: “I am aware about the delay to complete this project and how important the road is to the people of Mzimba.

“We are not going to relax but push for funds so that this road project is completed.”

Chambulanyina Jere said he will continue to lobby for resources to develop the area.

Speaking at a recent political rally at Mzimba Boma, Minister of Transport and Public Works Jacob Hara said the Jenda-Edingeni Road which is expected to connect to Mzimba boma is one of the priority roads.
