Comsip trains book keepers

Listen to this article

Community Savings and Investment Promotion (Comsip) Cooperative Union Limited is training 21 bookkeepers from cooperatives affiliated to the union in the Southern Region.

Speaking at the opening of a four-day training workshop for the bookkeepers on Monday in Blantyre, Comsip assistant accountant Paul Kamwendo said they noted capacity gaps in financial records from the cooperatives, hence the training.

He said many bookkeepers were trained in 2006 when Comsip had just started and some left their respective cooperatives.

“Comsip cooperatives are bound to report to Ministry of Industry and Trade and a report that is not well equipped is likely to give a false picture of what is on the ground,” said Kamwendo.

He said poor bookkeeping also created confusion whenever cooperative members wanted to share dividends.

Emily Mwadala, one of the bookkeepers from Natchefu Cooperative in Thyolo, commended Comsip for the training. She stated that auditors will now have simplified work when going through their books as there will now be order.
