Concern Universal, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO), with funding from Against Malaria Foundation (AMF) will distribute over 400 000 long-lasting mosquito treated nets to households in all the villages of Dowa.

Concern Universal project manager Chimwemwe Nyoni said the aim of distributing net is to combat Malaria while complementing government’s efforts of achieving universal coverage of the nets.

He said they will acquaint the local leaders on their role during the implementation and  how the registration process will be conducted.

Nyoni said the previous net distribution exercise faced numerous challenges such as theft, late distribution, favouritism, greed and fraud.

“I believe the mosquito nets will help to reduce the infection rate of malaria through mosquito bites per year which is at between 30 and 50,” he said.

The official has since asked stakeholders in the district to work together so that the beneficiaries are registered in a transparent manner.

Concern Universal has also implemented the net distribution project in Phalombe, Ntcheu, Balaka and Dedza.—Mana.
