Constituents from Senior Chief Chimombo in Nsanje South on Friday summoned their member of Parliament (MP) Ramzan Juma Mahommed (Malawi Congress Party-MCP) to ask him about a number of projects he has implemented in the constituency.

The people met the lawmaker at Nyachipere Community Day Secondary School (CDSS). The meeting was organised by National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust to discuss development projects and following up on the MPs’ promises made during campaign.

Mahommed responding to questions

Chimombo Area Development Committee  (ADC) chairperson Fatch Mtaibu said the MP promised to be engaging the ADC and traditional leaders before going to Parliament to discuss issues affecting them. He said the MP has not done that from 2019 when he was elected.

His counterpart, Joseph Sabao, a youth representative,  asked the legislator to list down names of people who have benefitted from Constituency Development Fund (CDF) bursary since there are many youths in the area struggling with school fees.

In his response, Mahommed apologised to the constituents that some of the projects he intended to implement have not materialised.

“This is like that because funds from government do not flow as I would have loved to implement all the projects I promised,” he said.

The MP, however, said using CDF, he constructed a teacher’s house at Nyachipere CDSS and also lobbied for the construction of a health post using funds from Governance to enable Service Delivery.

Nice Trust Nsanje district programmes officer Kondwani Malunga, who moderated the meeting, described the meeting as fruitful, saying it leads to accelerated socio-economic development and minimiseS multi-dimensional poverty.

Nice Trust held the meeting with funding from European Union under Boma Lathu project.
