Coombes, Lee win Design Printers Golf

Veteran golfer Brian Coombes on Sunday won Design Printers Valentine Golf at the Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC) after beating a field of 77.

Coombes won with 40 stablefold points after counting out Victor Khamalatha. George Chima finished third on 38 points.

Cannan Paul was nearest to the pin while Ashitosh Godambe had the longest drive.

In the ladies category, Fortune Lee came tops with 44 points while LGC ladies captain Elizabeth Mvula trailed her by a point to finish second. Jochibed Mpanga was third on 40 points

Deborah Lazalo had the longest drive while Mpanga was nearest to the pin.

Coombes attributed his success to patience, saying: “I played to enjoy the game. When you play to win you lose because you are under pressure. My best play was hole 16 where I had a birdie.”

He thanked the sponsors for making it a tradition to sponsor Valentine’s golf.

Coombes got a set of desktop pens and a trophy.

On her part, Lee dedicated her win to her husband, saying he was her inspiration

LGC captain Medson Roka thanked Design Printers for their continued support..

Design Printers managing director Dhrutika Vansia said the golf community is like family.

“The golf community is close to us because the chairperson of Design Printers once headed the LGC. We are proud to sponsor the event and we thank everyone who took part. Our Valentine message is about togetherness,” he said.
