Cop shot dead, millions vanish in Lilongwe daylight robbery
Armed robbers today morning shot dead a police officer and critically injured two others in a fierce exchange of fire as they went away with millions.
The Nation crew that visited the crime scene soon after the incident managed to count over a dozen bullet holes on the cash vehicle belonging to Petroda Limited that was said to be enroute to the bank.
The incident happened at Amina Roundabout on Paul Kagame Road in Lilongwe.
The robbers were apprehended an hour later at Area 49 Police check point.
Straight from the initial crime scene at Amina Roundabout, the robbers also hijacked a commuter minibus at Chitukuko in Area 15 and forced out its passengers at gun point before speeding away in it; it has been established.
However, in their haste, the criminals left behind a driving licence and one of the seven guns they allegedly used.
An eye witness, Jolly Francisco said four passengers two police officers, a cashier and a driver were heading to the bank to deposit money.
