Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) secretary general William Shija has said Malawi will continue to feature in most of the association’s programmes to ensure effective parliamentary deliberations.

Shinja said this yesterday after meeting President Peter Mutharika at State Lodge in Lilongwe.

The CPA secretary general was in the country to attend the orientation seminar for newly elected members of Parliament.

Shija said orienting new members of Parliament is one way of ensuring that the members understand the public’s expectation and how parliamentary deliberations are done.

“The workshop ends today and I appreciate to meet His Excellency [Peter Mutharika] to brief him on the type of activities under the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and one of the activities is seminars and post-election seminar which assist new Members of Parliament to know what to do or what is likely to be at stake in their work as members,” he said.
